Description[]

The Scanner, also known as the NVCS-3000, is an item that replaces the flashlight. It has night-vision capabilities, allowing users to see through the dark. It can also give batteries an obvious glow, making them easier to spot and collect. Batteries are used to power it, like the regular flashlight, however it requires 4 batteries instead of 2.

During its use, the Scanner will track your health and stamina using two dedicated bars at the bottom left and right respectively. Its battery is shown at the top left, and it lasts 3 minutes and 20 seconds; a large noticeable improvement compared to the battery life of a normal flashlight. It will also display the current FPS of your device in the top-right corner of the screen (e.g., if you are lagging or experiencing smooth frames, the FPS will be low or high, respectively).

If you are near A-100, The Scanner will automatically turn on "Silent Mode", which makes the loud noise when using it silent. However, this also makes the battery deplete 5 times faster, meaning that at a full charge it will last 40 seconds instead of 3 minutes and 20 seconds. The only way to disable this mode is to move away far enough from the nearest A-100, or just un-equip the Scanner so it won't be depleted quickly.

How to Unlock[]

Once you reach A-1000, simply complete the ending cutscene. You will not be able to pick up the Scanner which is seen laying on a stone, but you will still be able to use the Scanner after the cutscene ends.

After the cutscene is finished, the Scanner will be obtainable in the lobby room by walking near the omega symbol. An animation plays where a portal opens, and a Guest will come through and hold the Scanner out for you to take it.

Pros[]

  • Allows you to see everything around you, unlike the normal Flashlight and Gummy Flashlight.
    • Shows batteries within your view.
  • Gives off clear visual cues of any entities' presence.
  • Enables you to see ghosts with the Scanner.
  • Allows you to see Health and stamina, which also works with the Wrath charm.
  • Its battery life is 3m and 20s, which is longer than the Flashlight battery life.
  • Allows you to see the current FPS.
  • Doesn't attract Pnevma.
  • Very useful for speedrunning.
  • Gives a very clear view of where A-666 is.

Cons[]

  • You will not be able to interact with anything while changing batteries for a few seconds. This applies to all light sources (Except for Gummy Flashlight.)
  • Its operating cost is very expensive; it needs 4 Batteries per recharge.
  • The Scanner cannot detect Shell, Paralysis, or Kalypto.
  • All audio is muffled while the Scanner is active.
  • If Insidæ Prime happens to spawn, the Scanner will make dealing with it harder as a result of the increased static.
  • Ghosts can block certain objects e.g. the door if you have your Scanner on. (Likely a bug)
  • On Silent Mode it will last only 40 seconds.
  • If your device is weak enough, the Scanner can make your game lag and potentially increase ping.
  • Can’t scare off Darkness, unlike the flashlight. The Gummy Flashlight also shares this flaw.
  • Very difficult to obtain.

Entity Attacks[]

A-60 (Multimonster)[]

When MultiMonster spawns, the Scanner's screen will fill up with some frequent static, indicating its spawn.

A-60' (Multimonster Prime)[]

When MultiMonster Prime spawns after the MultiMonster's attack, the Scanner's screen will fill up with static accompanied by a major audio disturbance.

A-100 (Pnevma)[]

When Pnevma is in close enough proximity to the Scanner, it will turn on “Silent Mode”. When this happens, the battery drains 5x faster.

A-120 (Happy Scribble)[]

When Happy Scribble spawns, the Scanner will make a shockwave effect, indicating where they are.

A-90' (Paralysis Prime)[]

Similarly to MultiMonster Prime, when Paralysis Prime spawns after Paralysis (Who cannot be detected by the Scanner), the Scanner's screen will fill up with static accompanied by a major audio disturbance. (Note that the Scanner still cannot detect its counterpart.)

A-200 (Insidæ)[]

When Insidæ spawns, the Scanner will indicate where it is with a bright star effect.

A-200' (Insidæ Prime)[]

If Insidæ Prime spawns after Insidæ's attack, the screen will fill up with static (similarly to MultiMonster Prime), and its location will be displayed by a bright star (similarly to Insidæ)

Trivia[]

  • The Scanner is directly based off of the now removed NVCS-3000 from Doors the only differences being that the Scanner can detect entities, highlight batteries, and not show items through walls.
  • The Scanner used to be unobtainable, with the only way to get it being through an admin command.
  • Ghosts blocking certain parts when using the Scanner is most likely unintended.
  • Happy Scribble, Insidæ and Insidæ Prime used to not be indicated on the Scanner, but it was changed in a later update.
  • The Scanner's multiplayer model emits a small point-light of the color of the screen (from the wielders perspective).
  • Despite only showing up when on, the Scanner's multiplayer model will always have its screen off.
  • Before, when the Scanner was first released to the public, it couldn't detect any of the Scribbles. However, in an update, the Scanner was buffed to be able to detect every single scribble entity due to the past version of it not being much better than the regular Flashlight/Gummy Flashlight.
  • In an update the Scanner's battery life was changed from 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
  • In update (4/17/2024) getting the Scanner has been made harder as a result of the entity spawn rate being made much higher between rooms A-900 and A-998.
  • The shockwave effect for Happy Scribble (A-120) is mostly useful for seeing when it spawns, but not very much for seeing where it is, as it is hard to see if the shockwaves are getting closer or just spreading out.
  • There is a bug where sometimes the Scanner doesn't highlight batteries.
  • Using the Desire Charm with the Scanner is very useful, as batteries spawn less after A-900.
